THE BASIC CHIP SHOT Most people are so obsessed with hitting the ball huge distances that they fail to realise the importance of being able to chip well around the greens and the ability to get up and down on a consistance basis , in this article i will highlight some key factors in the actual mechanics of the shot for golfers of all abilities , which once implemented from setup through to the end of shot will unboubtably save you shots on your round. SET UP What the vast majority of amateur golfers tend to do is totally over exagerate this position to a very agressive set up position , tending to favour to much weight on the front side and having the ball position to far back in the stance , this tends to instigate a very early wrist brake in the backswing and subsequently the angle of attack into the ball is way to steep as a result the tempo of the shot is too quick making it very difficult to judge distances with short chips and more importante either duff or thin the shot itself. REMEDY Yes the setup should include the two factors mentioned but not to such an agressive position , grip the club softly some 50 % lighter than you would normally do with a small swing to encourage feel and tempo into the the shot , try to resist wrist brake in the backswing and keep the hands passive through the strike area , and most importantly try to hold the position at the end of the swing at least for a few seconds , this encourages obviously the completion of the shot but more importantly excelleration.

Whatever level of golf you are at and however skilful you think you may be on the golf course there is always room for improvement. Read on to discover more
The major key in the advanced game to be able to plot and manufacture your way around a golf course is knowing your capabilities which in the modern game equates to yardages and distances that each club can give you. Modern day laser rangefinders such as Bushnell and Nikon can now give you the added advantage.

Point one
They can be used now in practice and driving range sessions to now pinpoint the yardage to within fractions of how far you hit individual clubs.
Point two
Having familiarised yourself with these yardages and capabilities of each club the laser rangefinders can be used on course now during casual and tournament play. The rangefinder in point one that was firstly used to distinguish the distance also serves a dual purpose on course by allowing you to measure to pinpoint accuracy all yardages of all shots. This in the past was simply a guessing game and modern technology has now allowed this to become strategic data.
Point three
Simply by going through your normal practice regime with the reinforcement of the modern day rangefinder allows any level of golfer to now complete points one and two. This reassurance of distance, yardage and measurement will breed confidence and consistency into every game.

How many times do you go out for a round of golf here in the UK on perfect still tranquil conditions , not very often I hear you cry.
More often than not we all at some point in our round will encounter a hole which is directly into a stiff breeze , we as golfers have to apply some simple basic changes to our set up and swing principles to be able to adapt to the change in weather conditions as follows.
SET-UP
1. Firstly set up with the ball position slightly further back in the stance ideally 2-3 inches further back than a normal shot- this will promote a lower ball flight to the target. 2. Open the stance slightly to the target – this will allow the hands to square the clubface at impact with improved timing. 3. Favour a weight ratio towards the front side ie 60-40 % weight on the front side and leg.
SWING – PRINCIPLES
1. Half or 3/4 length backswing whilst initiating this type of shot 2. Try not to be too aggressive with the swingspeed into impact dont accelerate too hard into the ball. 3. Always try and hold off a full followthrough or through swing so it matches that of the backswing length.
The key to the this shot is to try and execute the shot as softly as possible almost trying to de accelerate during the impact zone with soft controlled hands which will result in a lower more penetrating ball flight .
Good Luck Guys we know this great PGA tip will make ALOT of Difference to you game!! |

How to improve ball striking and achieve greater distance, accuracy and consistency
Many club golfers will struggle to to achieve that crisp connection that all golfers strive for and will create that desired whistling noise and the ball flight resembling an aircraft taking off.
With one easy tip and a mental image that needs to created and installed at impact is that the left wrist impact position should be ahead and leading the clubhead.
IE the ideal position is that if you draw a straight line down the outside of your left forearm the line will continue into the back of the left wrist , in other words the straight line is not interupted by the breaking or flicking of the wrists at impact.
If this position is achieved at impact then the clubhead would of overtaken the hands and dynamic loft will of been applied to the clubhead impact position resulting in higher and weaker ball with posible directional issues.
So remember mental image of leading with the left side at impact allows the clubhead to contact on the downswing at maximum speed hitting the ball then the turf for a solid strike. |

The article that you have been waiting for has now arrived
We all as golfers regardless of ability or status always want to be able to hit the ball greater distances. This article will give you an insight into the most modern techniques which if applied will directly result in increased club head speed through, impact thus creating a greater distance hit. The majority of golfers who has tried to hit the ball further have generally done so by increasing the length of their back swing, however this generally has an adverse effect and will more then serve to emphasize any faults further. If we break this process down and look at two separate components- First component being upper body rotation, second being upper body rotation.
This mechanical process which we are now identifying is formally known as stack and tilt. Which has now been recognized and employed by golfers such as Tiger Woods over the past five years. It basically looks at the body and relates it to a spring like mechanism, building up resistance through the back swing to enable a quick fast recoil on the downswing and into impact.
So how do we achieve this methodology??
By simply placing a little bit more weight on the left side in the address position ie 60/40 ratio and focusing on less lower hip rotation in the backswing we are automatically able to build resistance between the top half and the lower half. A position at the top of the backswing where we should still receive a 90 degree shoulder turn and a 20-30% hip rotation which has now been reduced from 40-45 %, this natural change in positioning and ratios will increase the speed of the downswing naturally. As well as increase lateral movement of the body through impact. Which can only be related to a boxer throwing a punch, ie if a boxer moves towards his opponent it creates a stronger punch, more likely to knock his opponent out as opposed to a standard jab punch.
These simple set up techniques with attention to detail and the simple back swing thoughts are great starting points to hit the ball further with every club in the bag.
